Projects

Turbulent Reacting Flows

IISc
  • Currently working on massively parallel direct numerical simulations (DNS) of cavity-stabilized non-premixed flames to harness turbulence-chemistry interactions for lowering aircraft emissions
  • Results from a similar study for premixed flames depicting a shift in the chemical pathway by recirculation zones published in AIAA conference proceedings
  • Also harnessing machine learning techniques to accelerate such simulations
February 2021 - Present

Data-driven identification of recirculation zones

IISc
  • Lead a multidisciplinary effort comprising simulations, experiments and machine learning aimed at non-invasively identifying recirculation zones from experimental images of trapped vortex combustors
  • Used state-of-the art vision transformer models to demonstrate superior performance compared to generative adversarial networks. Results presented at ASME TurboExpo 2024
August 2023 - June 2024

Friction Stir Welding

IIT Dhanbad
  • Conducted a simulation of friction stir welding using ANSYS. The problem was modeled as a 3D multiphase non-Newtonian flow with the Sheppard-Wright shear stress model
  • Observed the formation and evolution of inter-metallic compounds from the simulation, results concur with prior experiments
  • Quantified the effect of mechanical properties of the joint by the tool offset and welding speed, based on analysis of inter-metallic compounds
  • Also worked extensively on image processing techniques to distinguish Copper from Aluminum in FE-SEM renderings, which resulted in a publication in the journal 'Measurement'
August 2017 - May 2020

Study of Mechanical Outages in a Coal Washery

Tata Steel Ltd.
  • Studied the mechanical outages at BCPP(Bhelatand Washery) for the last 3 years and determined the root causes and recommendations for reduction of outage by 20%
  • After detailed analysis of provided data and regular plant visits, many improvements in operation, maintenance and management were suggested, complying to the methods and objectives followed in TPM and CBM
  • Theorized and formulated a prototype for 'Condition Based Monitoring using Recurrent Neural Networks' employing long short term memory (LSTM) units coupled with high fidelity sensor array for fault prediction in critical components
  • Received an employment offer from Tata Steel as Management Trainee
May 2019 - July 2019

Construction of SLS 3D Printer

Naresh Vashist Centre for Tinkering and Innovation, IIT Dhanbad
  • Led a team in the planning, design, and construction of a 3D printer based on Selective Laser Sintering, which was funded by the institute
  • Worked primarily on mechatronics and toolpath planning using Arduino and Raspberry Pi
May 2018 - December 2019
